It must be stressed that Continental Paper was the first paper-mill in Italy to apply the de-inking process to the production of printing and writing paper, through the sole use of waste. Production started in September 1993, but the high innovation which characterized the project ensured that the first eight months of activity were totally dedicated to accurate testing cycles and relative modifications in order to bring the plant up to its peak regime, from both a qualitative and quantitative point of view.
From april 1994 the plant has run on a non-stop turnover system, 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. This has allowed Continental Paper to reach standards of production in line with market demand.
The plant is able to produce a finished product with whiteness from 64° to 84° G. E.
As of 1997 the mill in Varazze is equipped with a biogas co-production system, which makes it self-sufficient in electrical energy production.
Also biogas, produced by the water purification system, is salvaged and burnt in boilers, thus confirming Continental Paper's care with regard to the environment.
